Your First Day – Induction

Preparing for your first day
We know that attending Go Train might be the first time in a very long time that you have attended skills training sessions. We do all that we can to make you feel welcome, safe and ready to learn so you can progress to or closer to work. So during the week and weekend before you are due to attend a Go Train centre, we will send you text messages to remind you. We suggest you plan your route so you know how to get to our centre.

Manager’s Welcome
On your first day, you will not be alone. There will be many learners in the same position with the same hopes and worries. Our centre staff will make you feel welcome. The Centre Manager will talk to all new learners about Go Train, the centre, introduce you to the staff and make sure you know important things to keep yourself safe and how to find your way around the centre.

Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
Go Train’s Careers Advisers will provide careers education and guidance sessions to help you to plan how learning with Go Train will help you on your journey into work or closer to work.

Assessments
We will ask you to do some activities so we can properly understand your strengths and areas we can help you improve in your literacy, numeracy and digital skills. One of the activities will also help us assess what knowledge, if any, you have about the subject you are going to learn.

Enrolment
We will need to take some of your personal information to enrol you with the awarding organisation and to comply with the government funding we receive. We will also need to see identification as we must confirm your identity.
